October Events at Market

A Colorful, Community-Filled October at Lawrence Farmers Market

Fall produce is filling the tables, pumpkins are popping up, and we have a few extra reasons to put a Market morning on your calendar! This October, we’re sharing the harvest with Just Food, bringing back tie-dye, and getting ready for our annual Trick or Eat. Grab your shopping bags, and maybe your costume, and join us!

October 17: Stuff the Bus with Just Food

A little extra in your shopping bag can make a difference for a neighbor. On Saturday, October 17th, Just Food’s mobile food pantry will be at the Market, and we’re inviting you to help us Stuff the Bus!

Just Food is Douglas County’s food bank, helping neighbors access food through its own pantry and a network of more than 30 partner agencies. Its mobile pantry, the Cruising Cupboard, brings food to rural communities and areas where access is limited. Their work helps more people bring nutritious food home to their families.

Lawrence Farmers Market vendors donate more than 8,000 pounds of local food to Just Food each year. Stuff the Bus gives shoppers a way to join that effort while paying our farmers for the food they grow. Your purchase supports their work and helps feed our community.

Participating is simple: buy items from our local vendors and donate them at Just Food’s bus. For a full list of locally grown and produced items you can purchase and donate, stop by the Market Info Booth or the bus before you shop. Just Food staff will be there to answer questions and share more about their work.

Thank you for supporting local farmers and helping us take care of our community together!

October 17: Let’s Tie-Dye Again!

We’re bringing back tie-dye for another round of color!

Bring a Lawrence Farmers Market item to dye for free, or bring an item of your own and join in for $5. You’ll find us at the kids booth next to the Market Info Booth.

Need something to dye? We still have LFM merchandise available for purchase in kid and infant sizes only. Pick something up and make it your own—tie-dyeing your Market purchase is free!

Pick your colors, try a swirl, and give your Market gear or an old favorite a fresh look. Between shopping, donating, and dyeing, October 17th is shaping up to be a very good morning.

October 31: Trick or Eat!

Start your Halloween with local food and a little Market mischief! Our annual Trick or Eat returns on Saturday, October 31st, during regular Market hours, and we strongly encourage dressing up. Spooky, silly, homemade, elaborate—we want to see it all!

Many vendors will be handing out treats or toys, and you can stop by the kids booth to pick up a toy, too. Grab breakfast, shop for seasonal produce, and enjoy a Market full of Halloween looks.

Feeling competitive? Enter our costume contest, with the winner chosen by the Lawrence community! We’ll take your photo, post it online, and invite everyone to vote for their favorite. The winner will receive $20 in Market tokens, ready to pick up at the next Farmers Market.

We’ll announce the winner on Instagram. Don’t follow us or use social media? Stop by the Market Info Booth the following Saturday and ask who won!
