Sustainable Supper Returns September 24: A Look Back at 2025
Sustainable Supper returns on September 24th for an unforgettable evening of local food, drinks, music, and community, all in support of the Lawrence Farmers Market.
Hosted at Irvine’s Just Beyond Paradise, this unique progressive dinner will highlight the culinary talents of six extraordinary local chefs, each creating a course using fresh, locally sourced ingredients:
T.K. Peterson — Good Company Hospitality and former owner of Merchants
Ryan Young — Chef of Mass St. Fish House
Louis Wigen-Toccalino — Chef and owner of Cellar Door
Will Soo — Chef and owner of Lucky Sebs
Jake Moffitt — Chef and owner of Meadowlark Wine Bar
Finnegan Huerter — Chef of Sable
Each course will include a wine pairing from Irvine’s Just Beyond Paradise, along with a non-alcoholic alternative. The full menu is still to come, so stay tuned!
The evening will also feature live music and a live auction filled with exciting experiences, artwork, and items from local businesses. Guests will enjoy it all against the backdrop of a breathtaking Kansas sunset.
If you’re wondering what a Sustainable Supper evening looks and feels like, let’s take a look back at last year’s event.
A Look Back at Sustainable Supper 2025
You know how a perfect day of Kansas weather feels? When it’s not too hot or too cold, and the light pours over everything in a way that makes you appreciate every blade of grass, shuddering leaf, and passing cloud? There might be a breeze, but when it fades, the silence is so sweet and still that you could sit there forever.
That was the backdrop for the 2025 Sustainable Supper fundraiser.
Irvine’s Just Beyond Paradise is a slice of paradise all its own, tucked just northwest of Lawrence. As guests arrived, they were welcomed by members of the Lawrence Farmers Market Board of Directors and staff before entering the courtyard.
Each table was decorated with items from Farmers Market vendors, including flowers grown by Wild Hollow Farm and arranged by the team at Moon on the Meadow Farm, pumpkin succulents from Wiley’s Greenhouse, and decorative gourds and pumpkins from Juniper Hill Farms.
Guests began the evening with a specialty cocktail and snack while mingling and exploring the auction items on display. Among them was Jeromy Morris’s “No Place Like Home,” a custom painting featuring a bird’s-eye view of the Lawrence Farmers’ Market. Music from the Tonganoxie Split opened the evening before Market representatives welcomed everyone to the event.
The meal featured the spectacular work of five locally adored Lawrence chefs: T.K. Peterson, Nathan Desetti, Ryan Young, Simon Bates, and Louis Wigen-Toccalino. Food stations arranged around the courtyard allowed guests to enjoy each dish at their own pace.
Every course highlighted seasonal ingredients, from squash and mustard greens to mushrooms, beets, and even Zodiac pears atop a delectable tiramisu. The Irvine’s team paired each course with wine made from start to finish on the property.
As dinner continued, guests were treated to a beautiful sunset and live music. The stars gradually appeared, joining the glow of Irvine’s string lights in the evening sky.
Later, Market Board Chair Sarah Salzman shared a heartfelt message and introduced a video filmed and edited by Market vendor Michael Wunsch. The video featured customers, vendors, and volunteers sharing what the Lawrence Farmers’ Market means to them.
Will Averill then took the stage to lead the live auction. Guests generously bid on one-of-a-kind Lawrence experiences and items, including an at-home oyster soirée from Mass St. Fish House, a 10-person dinner with wine pairings from the chefs of Genovese and Zen Zero, a quintessential Lawrence weekend experience, and Jeromy Morris’s “No Place Like Home.”
The evening concluded with a paddle raise and a firsthand explanation of how donations support the Market’s work throughout the year—from educational programming for children to the practical necessities that keep the Market running each Saturday.
