Celebrate 50 years of the Lawrence Farmers Market with a throwback party!
For 50 years, the Lawrence Farmers Market has been more than a place to buy fresh produce. It has been a Saturday morning tradition, a gathering place for neighbors, a launchpad for local farms and small businesses, and a cornerstone of our community.
On Saturday, August 8, we're inviting everyone to help us celebrate five decades of local food, local farmers, and local connections with our Fresh Since 1976 anniversary celebration.
Join us during our regular Market hours, 7:30–11:30 AM, for a morning filled with fresh food, familiar faces, and activities for all ages.
Celebrate with Us
In addition to shopping from your favorite local farmers, growers, bakers, and makers, you'll find plenty of special anniversary fun throughout the Market, including:
Tie-dye activities
Live music
Hula hooping
A cake walk
Temporary tattoos
Brand-new 50th anniversary merchandise
Opportunities to get a commemorative tattoo from Best Friend Tattoo
Mini Market for kids to play
Whether you're stopping by for your weekly groceries or making your very first visit to the Market, we hope you'll spend the morning celebrating with us.
Looking Back While Looking Ahead
This celebration is about more than a birthday. It's a chance to reflect on the people who built the Lawrence Farmers Market into what it is today.
The very first Market opened in 1976 with just a handful of vendors selling the fruits and vegetables they had grown. Over the years, those tables expanded to include flowers, baked goods, honey, jams, meat, eggs, artisan foods, handcrafted goods, and so much more. Generations of farmers and makers have shared their work with this community, and generations of shoppers have made supporting local food part of their weekly routine.
As we celebrate being Fresh Since 1976, we'll also be sharing stories from throughout the Market's history. Over the coming weeks, follow along on our social media as we highlight memorable moments, historic photos, longtime vendors, and fun facts from the last 50 years.
Thank You for 50 Incredible Years
Every tomato picked before sunrise. Every loaf of bread baked before dawn. Every bouquet, jar of honey, handmade craft, conversation, and Saturday morning tradition has helped shape the Lawrence Farmers Market into what it is today.
Thank you to every farmer, maker, volunteer, staff member, board member, musician, community partner, and customer who has been part of this journey.
We're proud of the last 50 years, and we're even more excited for the next 50!
We hope you'll celebrate with us on Saturday, August 8, from 7:30–11:30 AM, at the Lawrence Farmers Market, 824 New Hampshire Street.
Here's to staying Fresh Since 1976.
