Our Programs

“The mission of the Lawrence Farmers Market is to provide children and adults in the Lawrence, KS area, with locally grown foods and farm products.  This will be accomplished by improving access to local, healthy, affordable food through a direct farm-to-consumer marketing venue that will serve diverse populations, including those of low income.”

As mentioned in our mission statement, LFM strives to be affordable and welcoming to people and families from all walks of life. Because of our direct to consumer business model we are able to provide goods at the price they truly cost to produce. This includes an understanding that those who produce our food deserve to be paid a living wage for their labor.

We are a proud participant in the Double Up Food Bucks program which enables individuals and families receiving SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) to double their spending power at Market. We also have several vendors who accept Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers, allowing seniors to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables, and honey.

Lawrence Farmers’ Market is a member of Double Up Heartland Collaborative. DUFB Heartland is aligning and scaling up successful healthy food incentive programs. Partners in this strong, two-state effort will serve more farmers and low-income families with the USDA Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive program. Over 1.1 million Kansas and Missouri residents rely on federal food assistance via the SNAP program. Double Up Food Bucks makes it easier for low-income families to eat fresh fruits and vegetables while supporting family farmers and growing local economies.

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (KSFMNP) is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service. The program provides a once annual benefit to low-income seniors to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs and honey from certified farmers at Farmers Markets in Kansas. Currently vendors are not required to participate in KSFMNP, but we do have multiple vendors who accept KSFMNP vouchers across the spectrum of applicable goods.
